Yesterday I had 8 races to study from which I found selections in 3 races, today there are just 2 at Musselburgh and both are nice races.
In the 13:55 there is a red hot favourite in Midnight Gun at 13/8 and you can see why he is fancied. However , that is a short price and I am taking last year's 1-2 in this race to give him a run for his money at big prices.
Persuasion 1pt each way at 14/1 with Bet365 (3 places)
Gweedore 1pt each way at 12/1 with Bet 365 (3 places)
Persuasion won the race last year off 87 after a pipe opener on the AW and they have followed the same route this time where he gets in off 86 so he is well handicapped and is 1-1 at the course.
Gweedore loves this track having recorded 6 wins, 6 2nds and 2 3rds from 16 runs which is a phenomenal return . This race is tougher than last year due to the presence of Midnight Gun but he is on the same mark as last year even though he won his last start of 2025 over C&D. He has twice won on seasonal return so a lack of a run is no worry.
In the 15:42, a valuable 5f class 2 sprint full of old favourites, I like Jer Batt who is well clear on my figures and Lexington Blitz.
Jer Batt 2 pts win at 4/1 with Bet365 (9/2 with their BetBoost)
Lexington Blitz 1pt Each Way at 14/1 with Bet365
I don't often select favourites but so much is going for Jer Batt and not for the rest of the field. He hasn't won for a while but always runs well first time up, is 2lb below a winning mark and 6lbs below the mark off which he was beaten a head at Doncaster 18 months ago. He was consistent last season finishing 3rd 6 times! However the key fact may be that he had a wind op after his last run.
I was going to leave it at that but I noticed that Lexington Blitz had been backed very early from 25 in to 20 then 16 then 12 with Paddy power and he is high on my figures for the race albeit some way behind Jer Batt.
He ran much better than his finishing position suggests on seasonal bow last year at the Dante meeting being bang there for a long way on the wrong part of the track and not given a hard time, That was off todays mark of 88. He was 2nd at Epsom and over C&D before winning easily at Catterick. Note they are all speed tracks and this track from stall 4 should suit him well, if he jumps fast they may not peg him back .
